Bolt Browser v2.1 Update

Ronen over at BerryReview had a heads up from BitStream, the developers behind ‘Bolt Browser’. They have release the next installment bringing the browser up to v2.1 This new version supports HTML5 video support and better integration with FaceBook . Updated WebKit server side means better rendering of web pages. Bitstream have also developed the need for tabbed browsing, although you can only get 3 tabs at max it’s well executed but I’m sure there is room for scope.

Much can be said for the FaceBook chat, I found the ‘chat’ box half way down the browser page, only to find it very sluggish, text is inputted in the normal Bolt way, click and enter text on a separate screen. I hate this, if your going to make a browser work make it as fully functional and as normal as can be. Constantly changing screens to input text gets so tiresome I think I may need to sit down. But some folk actually like the Bolt Brower setup 66,000+ likes on FaceBook can’t be wrong so maybe I am the minority.

Ok, hands up who has seen enough of video’s and pictures ?

Dear RIM, when are we going to see this available, just give us a date please.

This OS leaked nearly a week ago and so far I have to say it’s running very well on my Bold. If you didn’t take the plunge on the leak remember if your carrier isn’t Optus remember to remove the vendor.xml file prior to install.

BlackBerry Bold 9800 Reveals More Kit

BlackBerry Bold 9800 Reveals More Kit

Maaater over at the The Cellular Guru has launched the latest installment of the sort after Bold 9800 slider. As we can see from the from the images the device is running BlackBerry 6 v6.0.0.23 Also from zooming in on the memory screen shot you can see the 9800 is sporting 512Mb RAM with 4Gb of on board memory. Although it is still not confirmed weather the device will have SurePress or not, I am inclined to say Yes, RIM are making a device that is friendly to those who are touch only or qwerty only, by having a hardware keyboard AND SurePress they are not limiting who the device will work for. Think of it as common ground, It serves both types of users. As thought the WebKit browser is incorporated in to BlackBerry 6 and as stated by RIM some time ago it scores 100% on the Acid Browser Test, WebKit is something I’m  looking forward to on the 9700 when BlackBerry 6 gets released.

So after seeing more pictures, what do you think ?

Do you think RIM have gone totally nuts or have they hit the big time with this ?

Lets air our views………

New Features include:

Quote Tweets
Yfrog & TweetPhoto viewing support
Personal Info Guard
Go to user
Friend Picker
Hotkeys for Navigation
Viewable geotagged tweets

RIM has made a good effort with the update but quite frankly considering the size of RIM compared to other Twitter app developers, I have to say I expected more. Is this just a pacifier until BlackBerry 6 comes along where maybe we might see FaceBook get an update or will T4BB just fall behind with much needed updates aswell. Well according to the fine print users agree to we wont have to wait long on this one as the next update is due out on the 1st July 2010. But mean while third party app developers are certainly thriving on RIM’s ability not to update native apps quick enough.

BlackBerry Bold 9650 shows the red of Verizon

BlackBerry Bold 9650 shows the red of Verizon
It was announced at WES2010 that this new and exciting device would be released soon, here we have the actual Verizon branded device rocking an OS5. The specification isn’t something that will shock you as well all know this device beholds a 512Mb RAM, 3.2 Megapixel camera, TrackPad, GPS and WiFi. A 2Gb microSD card comes as standard for storage which is expandable up to a colossal 16Gb. I would predict that the current Tour users will jump at this device for two main reasons, 512 RAM and the standard spec trackpad. Whereas 9700 users may think the device is a little too big. Either way this device shows progression with RIM’s development within the smartphone industry.

BlackBerry Bold 9800 AT&T to launch in June

Boy Genius has started today by announcing AT&T will grab the debut of this device. The ‘slider’ as its commonly known has recently been captured on You Tube videos sporting BlackBerry 6, according to BG his sources over at RIM have provisionally put the release in mid June, but as we all know RIM aren’t good with dates so let’s wait and see. He also reports that AT&T have ordered a colossal 1,000,000 units after having an exclusive on the device though it isn’t known for the length of time, 3 months would be my estimate before it reaches the other carriers just in time for the Christmas sales push.

So who’s getting the 9800 ?

BlackBerry Tablet Update

Boy Genius is reporting today, that the BlackBerry Tablet will NOT have a cellular connection built-in. But instead it will complement the existing device users have. Connections thought to be available WiFi or Bluetooth, this comes as a disappointment to me as I thought it would be a stand alone device. RIM seem to know what market they are targeting with this, in my mind they are limiting the market by not having built-in cellular. The device code named ‘Cobolt’ or ‘BlackPad’ is rumored to be released in December…….thats right just in time for Christmas!

Wait for it ‘1.0.3739.15062’ there’s nothing like a nice long number to complicate get you confused. Although BING is still limited to the U.S. and all the popular devices, it still needs that finishing touch to control scrolling top to bottom in a loop. New features of this update include: Top Local, U.S. & Global News, Restaurant & Movie Search, Business Directory and BING Maps (with turn by turn directions)
